About the retreat

Somewhere in the north of Scotland, where the rivers run dark and the hills fold into one another under a pale November sky, there is a week waiting for you.

At Capo Cottages in Aberdeenshire, we gather a small group of people who have said yes to slowing down. To waking up without an agenda. To letting the landscape do something to them.

Each morning begins with movement. Gentle yoga, breath, a moment of stillness before the day opens. Not a practice to perfect, but one to inhabit. To feel the ground beneath you and remember you have a body that knows things your mind has forgotten.

The afternoons belong to colour. Watercolour, to be precise. That most honest of mediums, the one that refuses to be forced. Emilie will guide you through it with warmth and patience: how to let pigment bloom on wet paper, how to look at a hillside and find the seven colours hiding in what seemed like grey, how to stop trying to paint what you think you see and start painting what is actually there.

Between these two anchors, movement and painting, there is walking, foraging, a visit from Sandra the herbalist who knows the name and story of every plant growing in the hedgerow. There is a wild swim if you dare, a sauna to follow. There are shared meals prepared together in a spirit of simplicity. There are evenings by the fire.

This is not a holiday. It is not a course. It is something closer to a remembering. Of what it feels like to be present, to create without pressure, to be in beautiful company in a beautiful place.

Beginner and intermediate level. Bilingual French and English. 7 to 14 November 2026.

All are welcome.
